It focuses on evaluating and treating mental disorders when they appear linked to criminal behavior. Forensic psychiatry has evolved into a recognized discipline with a robust background of scientific inquiry, primarily because mental health care has always had a significant interface with the law. While it is fundamentally a clinical discipline, it also demands a comprehensive understanding of the law for effective clinical practice.
