Enhancing critical thinking and journalism skills through artificial intelligence literacy: A case study of journalism students in Tajik National University, Tajikistan

In the age of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence (AI) technology, this research paper  explores the impact of AI literacy and the incorporation of ChatGPT-3 in improving  critical thinking skills and journalism writing among 50 third-semester journalism  students at Tajik National University. Recognizing the increasing relevance of AI in  various industries, including journalism, the study aims to shed light on the potential  benefits of integrating AI tools in journalism education, focusing specifically on the development of critical thinking and writing abilities. To comprehensively investigate the  effects of AI literacy and ChatGPT-3 usage on students' skill development, a mixed?methods approach was employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative data  collection techniques. Surveys and interviews were utilized to gather in-depth insights into  the students' perspectives, experiences, and the overall impact of AI integration on their  learning outcomes. The results of the study reveal a significant improvement in students'  critical thinking and journalism writing skills when using ChatGPT-3. The findings suggest that the integration of AI tools like ChatGPT-3 in the classroom can foster critical  thinking by encouraging deeper analysis, reflection, and collaboration among students. Furthermore, the use of ChatGPT-3 in journalism writing tasks can enhance students'  writing skills, providing a valuable resource for generating content ideas, improving  research capabilities, and refining writing techniques. This study emphasizes the  importance of AI literacy in modern education, particularly in the context of journalism.  As AI tools continue to reshape the journalism landscape, it is crucial for journalism students to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to use these tools effectively and  responsibly in their future careers. Consequently, the study provides recommendations for  the successful integration of AI in journalism education, highlighting the need for comprehensive AI literacy training and the adoption of AI tools like ChatGPT-3 in  journalism curricula. this research demonstrates the potential of AI literacy and ChatGPT?3 integration for enhancing critical thinking and journalism writing skills among  journalism students at Tajik National University. The significant improvements observed  in the students' abilities underscore the value of incorporating AI tools and AI literacy training in journalism education to prepare students for the rapidly evolving, AI-driven  journalism landscape.
