Abstract
This commissioned report presents the findings of a qualitative research study conducted within community health and social care settings in one Community Health Organisation (CHO) of the Health Service Executive (HSE) in Ireland. The primary aim was to explore the implementation of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Link Practitioner role in these settings and to inform its future development and strategic direction. The HSE Nursing & Midwifery Planning & Development Unit (NMPDU) Midlands and NMPDU North East commissioned the study for the Midlands, Louth, Meath HSE CHO. Insights were gathered through in-depth one-to-one interviews with a diverse range of stakeholders. Thematic analysis of the data revealed four central themes that encapsulate the multifaceted nature of the role and its implementation: Education and Training, Role Enablers, Role Barriers, and Role Impact. Integration of findings was achieved using the RE-AIM framework.
