This paper provides a comprehensive retrospective account of
research output in the field of human resource management (HRM) in Ireland. This
study focuses on relevant HRM research output spanning six decades from 1950 to
2010, and yielded a total of some 195 academic papers. A detailed analysis of these works points to the
altering profile and contribution of HRM as an academic field and identifies a general
broadening of the field of HRM scholarship in Ireland over time. This paper
also presents a contextual overview, examining significant institutional and
practice developments, which, in turn, were significant for curriculum,
educational and research advances.
