Letterpress printing, the craft once revered as the means by which a message was carried to the masses, was how the vast majority printed matter was achieved for over half a millennium. The underlying technology changed little from when Gutenberg overcame the problem of movable type in the middle of the fifteenth century to its ultimate commercial demise in the latter half of the twentieth century. With this demise, I feel, something important was lost; the physical craft of typography.
