Welcome to the second edition of the This issue looks at the breath of some of the research activities, and events that have happened or are ongoing in the Physical Education and Sport Sciences (PESS) Department since February 2013. Many thanks to all our contributors to the September 2013 issue. The September 2013 issue provides an update on the work of the the PEPAYS research centre, the National Altitude Centre and the Video Performance Analysis Academy. Metabolic Flexibility is explored and award winning research relating to biomechanical analysis of spinal mobilisation is also presented. The Psychology staff provide an update on a BASES CPD workshop, the first ever BASES event to be held in Ireland as well as the outcome fromthe Archery 3 Day Psychological Skills Training Camp. Outreach activities are a key part of our department’s work, and the partnership between Siel Bleu and the University of Limerick is featured in this issue. Niamh Whelan, (Irish international Sprinter) describes what is like to be an in international athlete and a PhD student in the PESS
